Deixis in English Islamic Friday sermons: A pragma-discourse analysis

Although deixis has received increasingly academic attention in linguistic research, its use sermons, particularly the Islamic context, been largely underexplored. Therefore, this paper examined Friday sermons from perspective of pragmatics and discourse analysis. Drawing on Levinson’s Framework, it aimed at analyzing three main types (personal, temporal, spatial), focusing their forms, features, functions, frequency. The data were a corpus 70 compiled by researcher various online websites. study employed qualitative quantitative methods to meet purpose study. findings revealed that these deictic relatively common language respective with personal type being predominant, deictically pointing different referents whose interpretation was sensitive context which they occurred. As an affectively powerful tool corpus, preachers utilized serve wide variety functions pragmatic levels.
